FISHING NEW ZEALAND: WILDERNESS RAFT FISHING, CENTRAL NORTH ISLAND

"Out of the two weeks we spent in New Zealand this was the highlight of our trip. We were treated great and the facilities were just what we needed. It is truly a hidden gem in a great setting. Many thanks to Clive, his family and the staff for making our stay enjoyable. I will definitely try to make it back and recommend you to anyone interested in a private retreat atmosphere, with great activities for everyone."

The Mohaka River is located halfway between Taupo and Napier (approximately 1 hour's drive from either city), and is a beautiful wilderness river with both rainbow and brown trout, typically in the 3-4lb range. While the river has many access points for anglers traveling by foot, the best way to experience this river and get to its more remote stretches is by inflatable raft. The raft is used as a means of transportation down the river from one fishing spot to the next. You will get out of the raft to fish at each spot. Raft fishing is an ideal option for anyone who may have mobility issues as it involves minimal walking. Because our raft fishing guide operates out of Taupo, this is the ideal starting point, but if you are able to find your own way to the property from Napier, your raft fishing guide will meet you there.

Your cottage, located on a 260 acre riverside ranch, has two bedrooms - one with a double bed, the other with bunk beds. It also has its own bathroom, dining/kitchen area, and front porch. From your cottage it is just a short stroll down to the bar & restaurant - a superb setting close to the river, with huge patio to enjoy a drink or two along with some great conversation on those long summer evenings.
